Customer Supplied Art Guidelines

There are several kinds of artwork that can be used for screen printing or embroidery, ranging from originals on paper to electronic files. Whatever format you decide to use, providing the highest quality artwork will reduce the art costs, and will produce better results. This guide will help you decide how to supply your artwork to ensure a great finished product.

Originals on paper

Clean, high resolution, black images will produce better printing and embroidery. Images that are low quality, full color images, or art provided in pencil, colored ink etc., will require more art time.

Computer generated artwork

Stellar Designs uses both Windows and Macintosh computer platforms. This ensures compatibility with most forms of computer generated artwork. The applications we use are:

Adobe Illustrator 10.0
Adobe Photoshop 5.0
Adobe Acrobat 5.0
Corel Draw! 7.0
Microsoft Word (text documents only)

Stellar Designs may be able to translate other formats. Please check with customer service.

- Make sure to include any fonts used in the file. We cannot use the file unless they are provided. If you are using a drawing program such as Illustrator or FreeHand, an easier alternative is to change the fonts to outline form, which eliminates the need to supply the fonts.

 - Bitmap images, such as TIFF,  JPEG, GIF and BMP files, must be high resolution. At least 300 dpi is recommended.

 - Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files are our preferred file format.

 - If it is not possible to create an Acrobat PDF file please save your art in “.eps” format. This is an “Encapsulated PostScript” file which can be opened by a wide variety of applications.

 - If you used a placed image in the file, that image must be included along with the art file.

 - Please remember to include the appropriate extension at the end of a Windows file name (“.tif” with a TIFF file for example).

Electronic file transfers

Using the Internet to transfer your files saves time, money, and the inconvenience of providing a disk. If you have Internet access, please consider e-mailing your art file to us.

To e-mail a file, simply attach the file to an e-mail and send it to stellar@stellar-designs.com. Art files are often large, so it is usually best to compress the file when sending by e-mail. You may do this with WINZIP on the PC or StuffIt Deluxe on the Macintosh.
